Vol 3: Issue 1
Innovation
Innovation is not only brilliant technological output, it’s also new ways of thinking about customers and their needs. It’s recognizing alternative solutions to new challenges, as well as looking differently at existing problems. For Chip Fillingane, M.D., and other forward-looking clinicians, innovation means re-envisioning primary care through actions like revamping his delivery model to incorporate remote monitoring for chronic care management patients. We also highlight the results of our 2022 survey on physician sentiment, which finds that doctors overwhelmingly believe technology can help enhance patient care. Paul Brient, athenahealth’s executive vice president and chief product officer, discusses the importance of making crucial connections between clinical systems, and how those connections can enhance the provider experience. And we hear from three healthcare leaders as they discuss topics like using artificial intelligence to reduce burdensome, tedious tasks. In this issue’s cover story, Michael Palantoni, athenahealth’s vice president of product management for platform and data services, challenges us to raise our expectations for interoperability. The pace of innovation is more rapid than ever, and the power of platform technology to transition from data collection to curation is just one of many opportunities to advance the conversation around connectivity beyond a focus on APIs and data standards.
